Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
